An upscale Asian fusion restaurant located in the heart of Portland’s Downtown, Departure offers indoor and outdoor rooftop seating just a short walk from Pioneer Courthouse Square.
Departure’s sake selection pairs perfectly with their pan Asian offerings, though they also serve wine, beer, and specialty cocktails.
I recommend the Pork Belly and Kimchi Fried Rice. The pork belly was crispy but tender, and the runny egg on top tied everything together.

Noble Rot epitomizes everything I want from rooftop bars in Portland, OR: a James Beard-nominated wine program, an organic garden, comfort food, and a quirky name.
Blocks away from the iconic Burnside Bridge, the fourth-floor wine bar provides excellent city views, especially at sunset.
Nobody talks about Noble Rot without mentioning their wine flights and, surprisingly, their Peanut Butter and Jelly.
The dessert starts with a bread pudding, tops it with peanut butter ice cream, and serves it alongside a berry sauce.

Find the party in the Pearl District at 10 Barrel Brewing. The trendy brewery has a more relaxed vibe than other rooftop bars in Portland.
Brewmaster, Whitney Burnside, brews many beer offerings right on site. 10 Barrel serves pizza and other pub classics alongside their brews.
Dark lager lovers should try the Dementor’s Kiss. I sampled it as a part of a progressive flight. The smooth dark lager with subtle notes of bitterness will tempt any beer drinker.

Check out the Alberta Arts District’s Radio Room for Art Deco style and incredible brunch. Grab brunch on the weekend or chill late at this updated building, initially built-in 1949. The Radio Room sells typical diner fare and a full menu of cocktails.
On my brunch visit, I tried the Wake the Dead cocktail, a delightful mix of Kahlua, coffee, and tequila. The drink goes excellent with the breakfast tacos.

Catch a show at the historic auditorium, then head to Roof Deck at Revolution Hall. Located in East Central Portland, the rooftop bar is open from mid-April to October.
What guests love most about this location are the atmosphere and view. Roof Deck serves the classics like burgers and fried snacks.
The seating is first-come, first-serve, and they don’t take reservations. Arrive early if you’re hoping to spend an evening at this bar. Luckily if seating is booked, there are other bars at the same location, just without the rooftop seating.

Laurelwood Public House & Brewery serves classic bar food with fresh ingredients and vegan alternatives.
The Rose City Park neighborhood brewery has been in operation for nearly 20 years and is a local hangout with rooftop seating in the summer.

A few blocks away from the peaceful Chinese Garden, Tope provides modern Latin flavors paired with stunning views right in the middle of downtown Portland. Tope brands itself as a taqueria, but it could easily be called a tequila bar.
High-quality agave spirits were the highlight of this bar’s beverage options. Try the Oregon Bay Shrimp Ceviche for a refreshing complement to your tequila.
Sapphire Hotel
5008 SE Hawthorne Blvd, Portland, OR 97215

Any visit to the Mt. Tabor neighborhood will be incomplete without a visit to Sapphire Hotel. The name of the moody lounge calls back to the building’s history as a questionable hotel in the 1900s.
Sapphire specializes in handcrafted cocktails and shareable starters. Stop by Sapphire Hotel to try The Backhand, a bourbon cocktail with cardamom for a spicy kick.
The Salmon Cakes were another favorite at this iconic Portland bar. If you’re looking to share a plate, try the bacon-wrapped dates, you won’t be disappointed.

The Buckman neighborhood on Central Eastside houses Lolo Pass, a trendy hostel with a rooftop bar. Lolo Pass uses fresh local ingredients on their vegetable-forward menu alongside cocktails crafted with liquors from nearby distilleries.
During my stay at Lolo, I tried out many small plates for myself. The seasonal produce was the star of many of these dishes. My absolute favorite was the Bagel Bites made with housemade bagels and spicy honey.

On clear days three mountains can be seen from the Migration Brewing Rooftop at Canvas in the Stadium District.
Migration constantly rotates their selection of beers at their casual rooftop location, serving various popular bar food.
Migration was the perfect spot to end the day with a Patio Pale Ale paired with Broccoli and Sprouts at sunset.
Many Portland bars serve some variation of the Kale salad, but Migratio’s take on the Kale Caesar with hazelnuts was superb. Great food options from a welcoming place with a fantastic view.

This cafe features Portland’s other favorite brews, coffee, wine, beer, cocktails, and breakfast favorites like Avacado Toast.
I sampled The Old Town Grilled on my visit, which perfectly complemented my Bloody Mary. The Society Cafe gets its bread from the Lovejoy Bakery, which is soft, fresh, and smells fantastic.
